Peroni is an iconic bottled lager. Present behind the bar in every establishment in the UK, and even overseas, Peroni (and its blue laurels) are synonymous with premium, bottled lager. They even serve it in pints, too.
However, Peroni hasn’t rested on those famous blue laurels for too long, becoming the fourth most popular beer brand in the UK in recent years.
However, as the world of lager diversified and acclimatised to the modern consumer, has Peroni been left behind? Modern lager drinkers are now demanding premium lagers that meet their dietary requirements, such as gluten-free status and reduced calorie content. In this blog, we look at how Peroni stacks up against these demands and how it compares with premium reduced-calorie lagers.
So how many calories are in a bottle of Peroni, anyway? There are 137 calories in a 330ml bottle of Peroni Azzuro Nastro. That equates to 257 calories per 620ml large bottle. This makes the calories in a pint of Peroni at 234 kcal.
Continue reading below to see how our own reduced-calorie lager stacks up against Peroni Azzuro Nastro in carbohydrate, and calorie content, including Vegan Society and Gluten Free certifications.
How Many Calories Are In a Bottle of Peroni?
As we mentioned above, there are 137 kcal in a 330ml bottle of Peroni. The amount of calories increases appropriately when you drink a pint of Peroni, and even more when you opt for the large bottle commonly found in supermarkets.
With the UK government recommending that an adult doesn’t regularly exceed 2500 calories daily, one large bottle of Peroni equates to 5.5% of your daily recommended caloric intake. If you were to have more than one or two, this can quickly start to add up.
How Many Calories Are in a Pint of Peroni?
There are 234 calories in a pint of Peroni. This is slightly higher than the average calorie content of a standard pint of lager according to our own research.
The government guidelines recommend that an adult is not supposed to exceed 2500 calories per day whilst maintaining a healthy lifestyle. This makes one pint of Peroni 9.3% of your recommended daily caloric intake.
Is Peroni Vegan?
No. The standard Peroni ‘Nastro Azzurro’ is not Certified Vegan. However, Peroni does offer a Vegan and Vegetarian-Friendly option ‘Peroni Nastro Azzurro Stile Capri’. However, whilst being ‘Vegan Friendly’ they haven’t been able to certify this beer through the regular vegan certification process.
Whilst Peroni Nastro Azzurro Gluten-Free is noted as being friendly to people who maintain a vegan or vegetarian diet, they haven’t gone through stringent tests to provide a full vegetarian or vegan guarantee. If you are vegan, then you know the importance of finding vegan-certified products that guarantee their vegan status is importance, as many often use isinglass in their fining process, but don’t declare it on the ingredients list.
Unfortunately, claiming to be ‘vegan and vegetarian friendly’ isn’t the same as being certified vegan by the Vegan Society.
Certification is a lengthy process which involves a deep dive into all culturing, brewing and packaging methods involved in the creation of the product in question. Many brands claim to be ‘vegan friendly’ over becoming certified as vegan by the Vegan Society or Vegan.org. However, without the stringent checks, how can we be sure?
Is Peroni Gluten Free?
When looking for a gluten-free lager, certification matters. Unfortunately, Peroni Nastro Azzurro isn’t gluten-free as standard. They do offer a Peroni Nastro Azzurro Gluten-Free variety, however.
Testing for gluten extends not only to the ingredients used in the production methods of lagers (and indeed all consumable products) but to the production methods used in creating that lager. The certification method is carried out by an authority such as Coeliac UK.
