San Miguel is a popular name in the lager leagues, with 89% of people in the UK aware of the brand. San Miguel is believed by many to have been founded in Spain, but actually, it originated in the capital of the Philippines, Manila, by a group of Spaniards that wanted to put lager on the map in Asia.
Available in your local supermarket, city bar and local pub, San Miguel is the 8th most popular lager in the UK according to a recent survey. But what does the modern San Miguel look like? Has the brand adapted to what modern drinkers are now looking for?
We wondered how it compared to our own Skinny Lager, and pondered the question, how many calories are in a pint of San Miguel?
A pint of San Miguel contains 236 calories, and a standard 330ml bottle contains 137 calories. If you’re opting for a 440ml can, then you can expect to consume around 183 calories.
Read on to see just how well San Miguel stacks up against Skinny Lager for calorie content, carbohydrate content, gluten certification and Vegan Society status.
How Many Calories Are in a Pint Of San Miguel?
There are 236 calories in a pint of San Miguel. We conducted our own research through an independent third party and found that San Miguel is the 3rd highest in terms of calorie intake per pint when compared to the most popular brands on the market. So if San Miguel’s your lager of choice, it’s clear these calories will quickly add up and contribute to around 9.4% or 11.8% of your daily recommended calorie intake.
How Many Calories Are in a Bottle of San Miguel?
A standard 330ml bottle of San Miguel contains 137 calories. If you’re opting for a 440ml can this contains 183 calories. So opting for a bottle or can instead of a pint can slightly reduce your calorie intake if you’re going to drink San Miguel
It is recommended that the average man doesn’t regularly consume more than 2500 calories per day, and this number is less for women, who are recommended 2000 daily calories. This means that a bottle of San Miguel is approximately 5.5% of your daily calorie intake (based on a calorie intake of 2500), whereas a 440ml can is 7.3%. This amount can quickly add up, especially if you are enjoying a few beers on a regular basis.
San Miguel Nutritional Facts

There are also other nutritional facts to take into consideration such as carbohydrate content, gluten-free options and Vegan Society status.
Is San Miguel Vegan?
San Miguel claims to not use any animal products in their brewing method. It is not, Vegan Certified. The certification of alcoholic products such as beer or lager is important, many countries don’t require brands to include a thorough ingredient list on their packaging. Becoming Vegan Certified requires your products to undergo strict testing and use ingredients that have been specially created for the purpose of providing a vegan end product. As San Miguel hasn’t gone through this process, they can’t claim to be certified vegan.
Skinny Lager, IPA, and Skinny Fruit Cider have all undergone the rigorous process of reviewing every aspect of the production facility and brewing process. As such, we can proudly say that Skinny products are approved by the Vegan Society.
Is San Miguel Gluten-Free Certified?
At present, San Miguel is not certified as gluten-free. The lager is created by fermenting malted barley, which naturally contains gluten.
Many modern lager producers offer a lager that contains absolutely no gluten at all, which makes them ideal for people with coeliac disease or other gluten intolerances.
Skinny Lager is one of those lagers. Our process completely removes gluten from our lager, but it doesn’t alter the taste of the beer, shelf life or mouth-feel.
We also produce a Skinny IPA that goes through the same thorough process. The taste remains the same, however, you won’t get any nasty after-effects from the gluten intake, such as bloating, blotches or stomach cramps.
How Many Carbs Does San Miguel Have?
According to third-party testing, San Miguel lager contains 4.1g of carbohydrates per 100ml, which equates to 20.5g per pint. San Miguel has 11.9g of carbs for a 330ml bottle.
When compared to Skinny Lager, which has a carb content of only 3g per bottle or 5.1g of carbs per pint, Skinny is the clear choice.
