Why is it called ‘Skinny’?

Skinny IPA is called ‘Skinny’ because it has 40% fewer calories than other IPAs. That’s just 89 calories per 330ml can. This is because the residual carbohydrates are removed during the brewing process so that there are only 0.8g per 100ml. That’s only 0.8% giving 2.6g of carbohydrates per 330ml can. This is on average 78% fewer carbs than other IPAs.

Is Skinny IPA Low Alcohol?

Skinny IPA is a 4.0% ABV IPA and is therefore NOT a reduced, low or no alcohol beer. Alcohol contains calories and therefore one of the easiest ways to reduce the calories in beer is to reduce the alcohol content.

Instead, the calorie reduction in Skinny IPA comes from the reduction in carbohydrates at 78% fewer carbohydrates than other premium IPAs.

What Makes Skinny IPA Full Flavour?

Skinny IPA is lovingly crafted using the finest ingredients and brewing techniques to ensure that it has the correct balance of hops, malt and bitterness.

Bitterness is measured by the international bitterness scale (IBU) and is an indicator of beer flavour. Therefore, the higher the bitterness the fuller the flavour and Skinny IPA weighs in at 30 IBU. Not only is this higher than light IPAs but it is also higher than many premium IPAs. This ensures that Skinny IPA truly is a full flavour premium IPA.

What Makes Skinny IPA Gluten Free?

Skinny IPA is ‘Coeliac Society Certified Gluten Free’. This means that we meet the strict range of criteria as set out and closely monitored by the Coeliac Society to ensure that we are gluten free, both in terms of our ingredients and our production process.

This criteria includes testing for gluten using a UKAS accredited laboratory which we do for EVERY batch. Also our production facilities must meet the requirements of the AOECS Standard for Gluten Free Foods.

Our Coeliac Society certificate licence numbers are
Europe GB 093 001 & Global CUK G 134.

There are two different production methods that qualify a product as ‘Gluten Free’. Either no gluten is used at all during the production process or the gluten can be removed to a value <20ppm.

SkinnyBrands Premium IPA is gluten removed to a value of <10ppm (lower than the 20ppm threshold). We do this by exposing the beer to filtering enzymes during fermentation which remove the gluten at the end of the brewing process.

By being gluten removed, we can still use traditional brewing methods and this includes using malted barley (a gluten). This is important because by doing so we ensure that we are a full flavour premium IPA.

In 2024 Skinny IPA was amongst the winners at the UK Free From Awards in the Gluten Free Beer category

What Makes Skinny IPA Vegan Certified?

In order to filter the beer and keep it clear most beers and IPAs utilise animal by-products in their finings such as isinglass or gelatine. Instead, we use other Vegan Friendly filtration methods to maintain the clarity of our liquid. Therefore Skinny IPA is ‘Certified Vegan Friendly’ by the Vegan Society.

Our Vegan Society certificate licence number is 023719.

What Makes Skinny IPA Kosher Certified?

Skinny IPA is ‘Certified Kosher’ by the KLBD.

KLBD, also known as the Kashrut Division of the London Beth Din, is a leading global kosher certification agency. They ensure that all our ingredients and production methods are Kosher Certified including the intercession of a rabbi.

Our KLBD certificate company code is 6868 & 6869.
